Picture Flower Art

A very long time ago I saw this idea in one of my scrapbooking magazines.  I want to say it was originally done by the talented Ali Edwards, one of my all time favorite scrapbookers, but I could totally be wrong.  I of course copied it right away, and this beauty sits atop my dresser for me to eye google every single day.

I love that little flower art picture.  I love it so much that I decided to make it bigger and better to fill a blank wall I have in my living room.

First thing I did was order all of my prints that I wanted in my flower in 5 X 7 size.  In the original one I used 4 X 6 prints, but this one I want big enough to hang on a wall.  I ordered 8 prints.

I then painted my canvas.

Then using my Silhouette, I cute out a petal.  If you don't have a Silhouette, free hand it.  I did on my first little flower and it turned out great.  The design I used in Silhouette was called Build-a-Flower.  I ungrouped the whole thing and just picked one petal.  Then I re-sized it to be approximately 2.5 inches wide at the fattest point, and 6 inches tall.

Next I traced, with a pencil, the petal onto my pictures. When you do this try to position the fat part of the flower over the main part of the picture. When the petals come together in the center, there won't be a lot of the picture showing. You don't want to position someones face at the very tip (bottom) of the petal.

Continue to trace and cut until your flower is as full as you want it.  I was done after 8 pictures.  You could do more, or less.  After my flower petals were cut out I sanded them with a file.  That will give the edges a worn look, and the white will make them look more finished and less harsh.

If you want to add some color petals in the back ground use a slightly bigger petal.  I made my petal about 1/4 inch bigger on my Silhouette and cut out 8 more petals with patterned paper.

Next take a sponge brush and Mod Podge and paint the back of the paper petal with the Mod Podge.  Position the petal on the canvas.  Do this all the way around.

Once the Mod Podge has dried, do the same thing with the pictures.

Once that has dried put a circle in the middle and paint over the whole flower and canvas with the Mod Podge.

You might have to do more than one coat.  Make sure you let it dry completely before you add another coat. There you have it, wall art made by you.  Enjoy, and as always if you make one email it to us, we would love to see it!

Will be linking up today with these parties, go and check them out.
